Father's Day in Guatemala

Father's Day in Guatemala

In 1910, Smart Dood of Washington wanted to hold a celebration every year in order to highlight the important role that fathers have in society and in the lives of their children.

Despite not having many followers, the proposal got the green light in 1915, although at first it was suggested that each family was free to celebrate the day or not, as a consequence the first celebrations of Father's Day were much more relatives.

In 1972, the first Father's Day was established on June 19, 1910. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a proclamation declaring the third Sunday in June the official date for the celebration of Father's Day in the United States. From this moment on, this celebration reaches countries such as: Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Today, this celebration is celebrated almost everywhere in the world, but in Guatemala Father's Day is celebrated on June 17 every year.
