CURE AND CLEAN A MOLCAJETE AND TEMOLOTE

Before using a molcajete for the first time it is essential to "cure it" and this is the traditional way of doing it:

1. Pour into the bowl three tablespoons of any type of rice, straight from the package, simply raw and dried rice, along with a tablespoon of salt, coarse or fine.

2. Start grinding with the temolote gently. The idea is to rotate the content and intensify the force little by little so that the angles or protuberances that the stones will have are softened.

3. After a few minutes everything will turn grayish, precisely because of the stone dust that comes off. o With circling hand movements, from the middle of the bowl towards the center.

Molcajete cleaning

Daily cleaning should be done with a hard and firm bristle brush, soap and water; Carve vigorously to remove the largest residue and rinse. Repeat the operation if necessary.
